Community Garden (April 24, 2010)

The Hurricane Valley Kids Care Club volunteered at the Hurricane Community Garden picking weeds.
Thanks to all those dedicated kids who helped our community!

Arbor Day (April 30, 2010)

Our Kids Care Club helped Hurricane City plant trees at a local park.

The mayor of Hurricane declared April 30th to be the offical Arbor Day for our area.  Each Kids Care Club member who attended received a small pine tree to plant at their home.  Good work to all you wonderful kids!

Playathon (February 27, 2010)

Hasbro Inc. donated around 40 games to our Hurricane Valley Kids Care Club to to have a Playathon. All the children and even some adults got pledges and donations from family and friends. Hasbro Children's Fund will match the total amount we raised through our Playathon for Haiti in support of SOS Children's Villages. SOS Children's Villages has been operating two Villages in Haiti for 30 years. These Villages
have become safe havens for children who appear to have been orphaned by the earthquake. SOS is working with Haitian officials and other organizations to research family histories to determine if they have family that can care for them. If not, SOS will ensure that they have a safe, loving environment in which to grow-up. Reconstructing Haiti will take years. The funds that we raised through our Playathon will provide shelter for many traumatized children and families during the weeks and months to come.  We raised $1,517.70!

Hurricane Festival of Trees

The Kids Care Club decorated and donated two small trees this year for the Hurricane Festival of Trees. First we had the kids cut out paper stars and fold them to look 3-dimensional. I spray painted these gold and they turned out to look GREAT! Then we had red stars that we wrote what the kids had already done for service projects and what they would like to do. We had a banner on each tree. One said "service we've done" and "service we want do to." Some things they wrote that they had already done were: visited the animal shelter, cleaned up weeds, vacuumed a lady's house. Some things they wrote they want to do is: pick up garbage, help out my Mom, rake up leaves.

Becky Adams who was in charge talked to the kids about why we were donating a tree and how the money goes to help kids in Hurricane for Christmas.

"HOWL"oween Party

The Hurricane Valley Kids Care Club had a "Howl"oween party at the animal shelter. The kids came in their Halloween costumes and brought cat toys, dog treats and even a collar for a dog. The animal control officer Linda told the kids about the animal shelter and why we need them.
We walked around the shelter to see all the dogs and cats. Then the kids were able to give their treats or toys to the dogs and cats. The kids loved this and so did the animals. The dogs sure chomped up a lot of treats, and the cats started playing with their balls right away. Thanks to all the kids who were able to come and have some fun with the animals who don't have a home right now. And thanks to Linda for letting us have a party with the animals. She let us know at the end of our party that a fortunate dog was adopted during the party. A man came in to find a pet for his family. Great job kids! Mazie with catCedesRyleeWilliam

9/11

As the Kids Care Club we decided to honor the firefighters and police on this day for their hard work at protecting and serving us. We painted some signs at the park and delivered them to each agency. The girls worked on the firefighters sign.

The boys worked on the police officers sign.

The fire engine was brought out for the kids to explore. We inevitably stayed there a little longer while the kids climbed in and out, and in and out of the fire engine.

We are so grateful and proud of the hard working people around us who serve and protect. Thank you for all you do.
